The Reel Review
Based on some of Marvel’s more obscure comic book characters, this wacky sci-fi dramedy could have been predictable summer matinee fodder had it not been for its more unexpected elements – the endearing humanoid tree, Groot; the hilarious, literal interpretation of metaphors; and the sweet meaning behind the groovy 70s songs – all of which give the film and its misfits such heart. Despite that, and the genius casting of Chris Pratt, it is a bit predictable and slow in the middle – still a fun ride though.
