The Reel Review

B+

In this Marvel Comics adaptation, recently imprisoned cat burglar Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) has an opportunity to save the world from an evil villain when his mentor (Michael Douglas) asks him to wear a special high-tech suit that can turn him into a superhero by shrinking him to a minuscule size. Never mind that the story is super silly and contrived – the miniaturization visual effects are a real delight, and director Peyton Reed (Bring It On) injects just enough humor into this fun, cleverly-written story to keep it from taking itself too seriously. Rudd and Evangeline Lilly have great onscreen chemistry and the comic relief by Rudd’s posse of burglar buddies (David Dastmalchian, T.I. and especially Michael Peña) is a really nice touch.
