Chiwetel Ejiofor stars in this important, true Civil War era story about a black man from the northern United States who was captured and made a slave for more than a decade. Despite some odd casting choices (Taram Killam’s presence in one of the early scenes had me thinking SNL comedy skit instead of serious drama) the movie is impactful and Ejiofor’s and Lupita Nyong’o’s performances are career definingly outstanding.
