Friends, family and fans worldwide are mourning the death of Friends sitcom star Matthew Perry, who was found dead in his hot tub at his home in Pacific Palisades, California on Saturday afternoon.
TMZ reports Perry’s assistant called 911 upon finding him in the hot tub after returning from running a brief errand for Perry. It could take weeks to determine his cause of death.
“The joy you brought to so many in your too short lifetime will live on. I feel so very blessed by every creative moment we shared.” – Maggie Wheeler, who played girlfriend Janice on Friends
Police have said there is no suspicion of foul play nor were any illegal drugs found at Perry’s home. Perry went to rehab multiple times over the years and spent five months in the hospital in 2018 after his colon burst as a result of his drug use.
Perry rose to fame playing quick-witted, neurotic Chandler Bing for ten seasons on the wildly-popular sitcom from 1994 to 2004. He released his memoir in 2022, a year after a highly-touted reunion special on HBO Max.
Perry’s final Instagram post, six days ago, was a photo of him in his hot tub.
Matthew Perry was 54.
