Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix (Joker) and Vanessa Kirby (Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One) star in the upcoming biopic about the iconic and controversial Napoleon Bonaparte, the French Revolution military commander who would become emperor of France in the early 1800s.

Filmed mostly in the U.K., the epic from director Ridley Scott (The Martian, Alien) will focus on the tumultuous relationship Napoleon had with the woman who would become his wife, Josephine, and how that relationship contributed both to his rise and his downfall. The film marks the first reunion of Scott and Phoenix since 2000’s Gladiator, in which Phoenix played the power-hungry Roman ruler Commodus.

Napoleon will hit theaters on November 22, 2023, with streaming to follow sometime in 2024 on AppleTV+.
