In death, actor/comedian Norm MacDonald has done something no other comedian has ever done – he has released a TV comedy special.

Norm MacDonald: Nothing Special will debut on Netflix on May 30.

Norm MacDonald on Saturday Night Live.

MacDonald’s longtime producing partner Lori Jo Hoekstra says the former Saturday Night Live star of the parody newscast Weekend Update, who died of leukemia at age 61 last September, had recorded the hour-long program while undergoing cancer treatments from his home during the summer of 2020, “just in case things went south.”

Hoekstra says MacDonald had planned on using the material for a proper Netflix stand-up special, but a year later, when he relapsed, he realized this one-take recording in his living room would have to do.

MacDonald’s special will also include clips of David Letterman, Dave Chappelle, Molly Shannon, Adam Sandler and Conan O’Brien discussing Macdonald during the recent Netflix Is a Joke Fest.

Hoekstra says MacDonald was very proud knowing he would get to share the material to the public and that he even picked out the show’s title prior to his death.
