It appears as though a trio of comedy actresses – Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer and Regina Hall – will be hosting the 2022 Oscars when the movie industry’s top awards show returns to an emcee format for the first time in four years next month.

ABC, which is broadcasting the Academy Awards live on March 27th, is expected to make the announcement on Good Morning America Tuesday morning.

Regina Hall, Jada Pinkett Smith, Queen Latifah and Tiffany Haddish in Girls Trip.

This year’s awards are being produced by Will Packer, whose list of TV and film credits include Girls Trip, which starred Hall, The Photograph, Straight Outta Compton, the pop culture TV series Central Avenue (which included The Reelness movie reviewer Abb Jones – yes, self promotion!) and the reality dating series Ready to Love.

Los Angeles’ Union Station was site of the 2021 Oscars.

Last year’s Oscars, produced by Steven Soderbergh at Los Angeles’ Union Station, were the lowest rated ever. This year’s event will return to the Dolby Theater, and with the COVID-19 pandemic’s Omicron variant waning, could even see a lifting of the current mask mandate.

Netflix’s arthouse Western The Power of the Dog leads the pack of nominees this year with 12, followed by Denis Villaneuve’s blockbuster sci-fi Dune with 10 nominations.
