Oscar season is clearly underway with yet another heavy hitter drama from Oscar-winning writer/director Joel Coen (Fargo, No Country for Old Men), starring his wife, multiple Oscar winner Frances McDormand (Nomadland, Three Billboards Outisde Ebbing, Missouri, Fargo) and double Oscar winner Denzel Washington (Training Day, Glory).

Filmed in black and white on sparsely set soundstages, this artsy take on Shakespeare’s iconic story of a power-hungry Lord MacBeth, who sets his sights on the Scottish throne after receiving a prophecy from three witches, marks the first time Coen has directed a film without his brother, Ethan.

The Tragedy of MacBeth is scheduled to hit theaters on December 25th and will then be available on AppleTV+ on January 14, 2022.
