Emmy award winner Christina Applegate has announced that she has multiple sclerosis.

The 49-year-old actress, known for her comedic timing in roles in such TV shows and movies as Dead to Me, Vacation and Bad Moms, said in a tweet late Monday night that she was diagnosed a few months ago and that it has been a tough road.

Applegate’s diagnosis comes after a 2008 battle with breast cancer which resulted in Applegate having a double mastectomy as well as a removal of her ovaries and fallopian tubes. MS affects the nervous system and often results in progress physical and cognitive decline.

Applegate shot to stardom playing Kelly Bundy in Married… with Children in the 1980s and 90s. Applegate, who won an Emmy in 2003 for a guest spot on the popular TV series Friends, has a 10-year-old daughter, Sadie, with her husband, musician Martyn LeNoble.
