Jessica Chastain is gunning for that Oscar. This Fall she will star as the late televangelist, Tammy Faye Bakker, in The Eyes of Tammy Faye. Chastain produced and does her own singing in the biopic, which stars Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge, The Social Network) as Tammy Faye’s husband, Jim Bakker. Cherry Jones (Defending Jacob, Boy Erased) and Vincent D’Onofrio (Yesterday) also star, the latter as fellow televangelist Jerry Falwell.

Filming began in Charlotte, North Carolina, not far from the former headquarters of the PTL Club, in October 2019, prior to the pandemic. Michael Showalter (The Big Sick) is director.

The Eyes of Tammy Faye hits theaters September 17th.
