A controversial young doctor tries to save a Russian cosmonaut after he returns to Earth infected with an alien parasite, in this sci-fi thriller scheduled for release on home rental August 14th.

Set in the early 1980s, director Egor Abramenko’s Sputnik is a throwback to the 1979 sci-fi classic Alien, blending big budget visual effects with a creepy story. It stars Oksana Akinshina and Pyotr Fyodorov as the doctor and infected cosmonaut. The twist? The alien creature leaves its host’s body at night to feed.

Written by Oleg Malovichko and Andrei Zolotarev, Sputnik was inspired by the Russian director’s 2017 short film, The Passenger.

Here’s a preview:

Sputnik will be available on demand August 14th. The Reelness of course will have a review as well as info on the available streaming platforms.
