Black Panther was the winner of the big prize at the 2019 Screen Actors Guild awards Sunday night, picking up the award for Cast in a Motion Picture. A Star Is Born, which led the field with four nominations, left empty-handed.

Chadwick Bozeman and the cast of Black Panther receiving the SAG Award for Cast in a Motion Picture.

Will & Grace‘s Megan Mullally hosted the two hour event which was broadcast live in the U. S. on TBS and TNT. Alan Alda received a lifetime achievement award.

The cast of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel receiving their SAG Award for Ensemble in a Comedy Series.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was the big winner of the night, sweeping the three TV comedy categories,  for Ensemble in a Comedy Series, Female Actor (Rachel Brosnahan) and Male Actor (Tony Shalhoub).  In one the funnier moments, in her acceptance speech for Best Female Actor in a TV Movie or Limited Series for Escape at Dannemora, Patricia Arquette thanked special investigator Robert Mueller for preserving the sovereignty of the U.S.

The SAG Awards are sometimes considered a precursor for next month’s Oscars. Glenn Close (The Wife) and Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody) won SAG Awards in the leading acting categories, with Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place) and Mahershala Ali (Green Book) winning in the Supporting Actor categories.

Glenn Close wins Best Female Actor for The Wife.
Rami Malek winning Best Male Actor for Bohemian Rhapsody
Double nominee Emily Blunt winning for Best Female Actor in a Supporting Role for A Quiet Place
