2019 Oscar Nominees – The Full List! The Surprises! The Snubs!
The nominees for the host-free 2019 Academy Awards were just announced. Roma and The Favourites were the favorites for today at least, each picking up ten nominations. Close behind is A Star Is Born and Vice, each with eight nominations. Black Panther has made history, becoming the first superhero movie to get nominated for Best Picture.
The biggest surprises were the inclusion of both Roma actresses Yalitsa Aparicio and Marina di Tavira in the Actress and Supporting Actress categories, and additional nominations for Foreign Language Film nominee Cold War in the Director and Cinematography categories along with a Cinematography nomination for fellow Foreign Language Film nominee Never Look Back. Another surprise – three nominations for the Coen brothers’ Western anthology The Ballad of Buster Scruggs in the Adapted Screenplay, Original Song and Costume categories.
Among the more noteworthy snubs: If Beale Street Could Talk for Best Picture, Bradley Cooper (A Star is Born) and Peter Farrelly (Green Book) for Best Director, the documentary about the late TV icon Mr. Rogers, Can You Ever Forgive Me? for Best Documentary, and the Troy Sivan/Jónsi song “Revelation” from Boy Erased for Best Original Song.
