The Reel Review
Tim and Millie’s hopes that their move to the country will jumpstart their waning relationship hit an obstacle when they stumble upon a mysterious cave near their new home. Inside is a supernatural force that causes their bodies to start to fuse together. Real-life couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie star in this sci-fi/body horror.

At its heart, writer/director Michael Shanks’ film debut is a metaphor about co-dependency, the fear of falling in love and fear of losing own’s sense of self. The really grotesque body horror is disturbingly well done, as are the very committed performances from its two stars. The weak link, however, is the actual story. It doesn’t really make much sense and at times is a bit too scant on detail to keep the viewer invested beyond the creepy body horror visuals.

The third act is where the already-threadbare story starts to fall apart, with anyone paying attention to Millie’s scene coming across neighbor/colleague’s wedding video getting a dose of the ending to come. The Spice Girls song in the final act, however, is a cute touch. Love is scary.
