The Reel Review

Netflix’s first Oscar win, in 2017 for Best Documentary Short, profiles three members of Syria’s courageous 2900-member White Helmets team, a civilian volunteer group that rescues residents trapped in rebel-held residential neighborhoods from Russian and Syrian government-led air strikes. The 40 minute film is an important one, highlighting the horrific humanitarian crisis that continues to unfold in Syria. The glimpse inside the daily lives of the rescuers appears filled both with sorrow and hope for a better future.
