The Reel Review

An ornithologist is kayaking in Portugal in search of a rare species of stork when rapids propel him into a strange and surreal adventure. Writer/director João Pedro Rodrigues’ wildlife footage and natural beauty of the Portuguese countryside (and the frequently naked leading man Paul Hamy) is nice to look at, and maybe there is some deep symbolism tucked away somewhere in this bizarre, homoerotic art house cinema retelling of the story of St. Anthony, the patron saint of lost things and people. But if there is, it’s so well hidden in this nonsensical, muddled mess of a story that you will be too focused on what sort of weird head trip it was that you just experienced to notice.
