The Reel Review
This quiet sleeper of a film packs quite an emotional punch, featuring Susan Sarandon as Marnie, a lonely widow who’s moved to LA to focus her well-intentioned smothering on her unhappy screenwriter daughter, deftly played by Rose Byrne. After said daughter sets some boundaries, Marnie turns her attention towards her daughter’s friends and various strangers in random acts of kindness. The story is a simple, surprisingly realistic and heartwarming delight, that will have you wanting to call your mom afterwards. Sarandon delivers one of her best performances in years and even has a treat for us Dolly Parton fans.
