The Reel Review
Denzel Washington, Chris Pratt and Ethan Hawke star in this period remake of the 1960 classic western (which itself was a remake of the Japanese epic, Seven Samurai), about a rag-tag band of mercenaries who come together and train townsfolk in guerrilla warfare after bandits seize their small town. While the film is a valiant and entertaining effort with excellent visuals, loads of action and a rousing score, it lacks the character development, humor, mystique and heart of the original and is more mediocre than magnificent.
