The Reel Review
This Netflix original series, co-produced by a team including Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) and rap legends Nas and Grandmaster Flash, portrays the emergence of hip-hop from the ashes of disco in New York’s South Bronx in the late 1970s. It is fresh, it is freaky and yes, as they would say in that era, it is totally dope. The first of the unconventionally long 1.5 hour episodes takes a while to heat up, and it could use some editing, but the interesting story and wonderfully groovy imagery makes for a fun, funky trip.
