The Reel Review
If you could live forever, would life become less special, even sad? This is the crux of this romantic tragedy about a woman who, due to a freak set of occurrences, becomes unable to physically age. While it sounds awesome, problems cause her to avoid relationships and instead create a new identity every ten years. Strong performances by Blake Lively as the understated and eerily timeless Adaline (she is over a hundred years old after all), and Harrison Ford as one of her heartbroken past loves helps overcome a screenplay that feels hokey when a narrator tells us the backstory instead of showing us (or at least telling it through Adaline’s point of view). Regardless, it’s still a sweet date movie sprinkled with touching moments.
