The Reel Review
Anna Kendrick decides to proceed with plans to attend her oldest friend’s wedding after her boyfriend (the bride’s brother and best man) dumps her, forcing her out as the maid of honor in the process. There is just one problem – she is now relegated to the table of misfits in the back of the room. Kendrick is charming as usual but it is June Squibb who steals scenes (and hearts) as the bride’s childhood nanny. Even so, the lame jokes far outnumber the good ones and the story could have used a major rewrite to make the character bonding even remotely believable. While it’s a pleasantly bland send-up of wedding reception cliches (bad toasts, drunk relatives, inappropriate guests) this is one invitation best declined.
