After he is dumped by his wife of 14 months, good-natured and affable Carey literally runs to his lifelong friends Julie and Paul for support. When they tell him an open relationship has been the secret to their successful marriage, it sparks a chain of events that throws everyone’s lives into utter chaos. Dakota Johnson, Kyle Marvin, Michael Angelo Covino and Adria Arjona star in this screwball comedy.

Kyle Marvin and Dakota Johnson in Splitsville

The silly story, written by the two male leads and directed by Covino, would have us believe that these two beautiful women would actually want to be with these petulant, man-children. (Don’t flatter yourselves, guys.) On top of that, this dark comedy starts off with a terrible tragedy that sets a bizarre, unfunny tone that lingers throughout the rest of the film. There also is a surprising amount of pointless, male full-frontal nudity (mostly of Marvin in a prosthetic penis). These characters are all supposed to be friends but their behavior indicates otherwise.

Michael Angelo Covino, Kyle Martin, Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona in Splitsville

Intentionally ridiculous, Splitsville is a psychotic, pointless comedy that is both predictable and filled with strange twists and turns, with no real message. If you love the absurd, then you may enjoy the slapstick humor, but most viewers will find this comedy a tedious waste of time and talent.
