The morning after surviving a wedding night sacrificial hunt by her new in-laws, the sole survivor of the now-dead family of Satan worshippers must now fight alongside her estranged sister against rival families vying to take control of the sect. Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton star in this dark comedy, horror/thriller.
Despite an admirable swing-for-the-fences attempt to go bigger and even crazier, this sequel to 2019’s kooky Ready or Not lacks the cleverness, wit and charm of the original film. The story feels slapped together and rushed and makes almost no sense with one note characters that are little more than cannon fodder.
Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood and Shawn Hatosy (The Pitt) are among the cutthroat clan members hunting the two sisters to win evil supremacy. There is plenty of gore for aficionados as well as a handful of funny moments, but not nearly enough to offset the dull story and sluggish pacing in the film’s midsection. This one is D.O.A. – dead on arrival.

• When Searchlight Pictures asked them to make a sequel, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett pivoted and modified their original sister-centered project starring Kathryn Newton and Samara Weaving.
• Samara Weaving and Kathryn Newton both appeared in the 2017 Oscar winner Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, although they didn’t share any scenes.
• Ready or Not 2: Here I Come was filmed in and around Toronto, Canada.
