A large prisoner transport from the Philippines to South Korea goes awry when the prisoners overpower their guards and take control of the cargo ship. But they soon encounter something onboard that is even more terrifying than them, in this Korean sci-fi/horror thriller starring Sung Dong-il, Jang Dong-yoon and Jung So-min.
Project Wolf Hunting is not so much a movie as it is a brainless shoot-’em-up video game come to life, with a nonstop barrage of violent kills spurting fake blood everywhere. People die so frequently and in such ridiculous ways that you become numb to it after just a few kills. As the sadistic leader of the prison uprising, Seo In-guk (Cafe Minamdang) makes a great villain, with Park Ho-san and Jung So-min (Love Next Door) as much heroes as there can be in such a pointless story.
Even gore aficionados will grow weary of the silly kills by the second hour, which is when we finally get the convoluted back story about this killing machine’s origin. (It’s as lame as you can imagine.) There is one funny scene where the monster rips an inmate’s arm off and beats him to death with it. The rest of the movie, however, is a tedious waste of two hours.

• Director Hongsun Kim says 2.5 tons of simulated blood was used throughout the production of the film which had a final body count of 57.
