The Reel Review

Patricia Dombrowski’s life freakin’ sucks – she’s an extremely overweight, cash-strapped working class white girl stuck in a series of dead end jobs, living with her deadbeat mom and dying Nana (Cathy Moriarty) in a rundown town in New Jersey. And she wants to be a rap singer despite being surrounded by naysayers who don’t appreciate her talent.

Writer/director Geremy Jasper’s low budget, indy drama presents a raw, realistic portrait of life in working class America, along with some smile-inducing, bangin’ rap tunes and Danielle Macdonald, as Patti Cake$, is so fearless and sensational that you will be rooting hard for her wacky ragtag group to make their dreams come true by the unexpected, and realistic, finale.
