The Reel Review

A

This is the harrowing, inspirational true story of Neerja Bhanot, the brave, beautiful flight attendant responsible for saving 359 people onboard Pan Am Flight 73 in Karachi in 1986 when it was hijacked during her first flight as head purser. Director Ram Madhvani’s well-incorporated details of Bhanot’s earlier life and Sonam Kapoor’s heartfelt performance creates an inspirational portrait of the woman who was killed just two days before her 23rd birthday, becoming the youngest recipient of the Ashok Chakra award, India’s highest peacetime medal of bravery, and was honored by the U.S. government for courageously instructing flight attendants to hide the passports of several dozen American passengers when the Palestinian hijackers revealed plans to kill the Americans onboard. It is a well done tribute that will make you cry.
