The Reel Review
This is an extremely timely dark comedy/drama about obsession – the obsession of an emotionally disturbed woman (Aubrey Plaza) who moves to Los Angeles to stalk and befriend an Instagram star (Elizabeth Olsen), whom is obsessed with her own social media image.
Director Matt Spicer and Plaza deftly straddle the line between humor and uncomfortable, cringeworthy OMG moments as Ingrid, in her obsessive, hashtag-filled quest for online validation, channels 1992’s Single White Female, unwittingly exposing the reality and ridiculous vapidity behind social media façades. Olsen, as usual, is also exceptional. #obsession
