The Reel Review

B+

If you like your zombie apocalypse with a heavy dose of realism, then this is the movie for you. Ann is living a regimented solo existence in the remote woods of upstate New York following a mysterious population-gutting viral epidemic. But after rescuing a teenage girl and her stepfather, Ann finds herself fending off more than just starvation and attacks from the infected. This surprisingly good slow burner is well acted, deftly weaving emotional complexity, a mesmerizing feeling of dread and flashbacks into Ann’s prior life that culminates in an ending that, while initially frustrating, upon retrospection, makes perfect sense. Well done.
