The Reel Review
Two former best friends decide to skip their 10-year high school reunion and go on a camping trip to the California desert to a spot where a mysterious foil believed to be from a crashed UFO exists. Zach Green and Devin O’Rourke star in this low budget buddy sci-fi/comedy that they co-wrote and that Green directed.
Imagine if Thelma and Louise were a couple of nerdy misfits running from their humdrum lives instead of from the police. Green’s Dexter is a down-on-his-luck, aspiring filmmaker, and O’Rourke’s Rex is a guy that, despite being best known for his ability to consume large amounts of alcohol without passing out, has a certain quirky, easygoing, likable charm. But their plans to hang out and reconnect are thrown a curveball when a mysterious stranger appears at their campsite.
Some silly antics and goofy practical effects help compensate for a not always so coherent and at times sluggish story. This is one of those oddball movies that will appeal most to those with a strange sense of humor on par with Foil‘s writers/stars.
