Thanks to this expertly directed and acted nail-biter, we can now truly appreciate that drug-addled, machine-gun toting Somali pirates truly are one of life’s top ten “things to avoid.” Controversy aside (crew members from the cargo ship claim the real Phillips was an arrogant, reckless captain who knowingly led them off course and into danger during the ill-fated 2009 hijacking), Tom Hanks deftly makes Phillips a hero and himself a likely Oscar nominee in this very intense, albeit at times, tedious, crowd-pleaser. Go, Seals, Go!
