The Reel Review
Chloë Grace Moretz stars in this adaptation of the true story of New York Post reporter Susannah Cahalan, whose health took a mysterious, rapidly deteriorating downturn in 2009 when she started experiencing headaches, memory loss and hallucinations. Weeks later, her condition devolved into erratic behavior, seizures and a life-threatening catatonic state. While the film at times feels a bit like a made-for-TV movie, director Gerard Barrett and Cahalan have adapted her bestselling book into a riveting and compelling mystery, with realistic performances by Moretz, Carrie-Anne Moss and Richard Armitage as her confused and frightened parents, Tyler Perry as her boss and Jenny Slate (Gifted, Parks and Recreation) as her concerned friend and co-worker.
