The Reel Review
The mother of a young soldier killed while serving in Afghanistan becomes consumed with revenge after she discovers the bullet that ended her son’s life came from the munitions factory where she works. Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) stars in this thriller.
Anyone looking to see a badass Cersei Lannister waste a bunch of bad guys vigilante style is going to be very disappointed with this sluggish but well-intended ode to the grief-stricken parents of fallen soldiers. Headey’s Nance spends most of the film wallowing in despair, as she wanders her bleak town looking for answers about her son’s senseless death.
As well-intended as writer/director Chad Faust’s screenplay is, the premise is a bit too gimmicky and just doesn’t have much bite to it. Headey’s solid performance elevates the bland story and the scene in the final act with the military recruiter is a surprise, but otherwise there just isn’t much to this dreary, depressing film.

• Prior to writing and directing, Chad Faust was an actor, starring as Kyle Baldwin in the sci-fi series The 4400. He also has a cameo in Ballistic as Staff Sergeant Buchanan.
• Jordan Kronis, who appears in Ballistic as the protagonist’s son, also appeared in three episodes of the 2022 horror series Chucky.
• Ballistic was filmed in Sudbury, Ontario.
