The Reel Review
This Netflix original drama, adapted from a Stephen King novella, centers on a dysfunctional family in rural 1922 Nebraska, where a farmer decides to kill his wife, with the help of their teenage son, to prevent her from selling the family farm. Thomas Jane (The Mist, Hung) is convincing as the conniving killer, and the visuals and score create a creepy vibe as the duo reaps karmic justice from the crime they have sown. And while mildly entertaining, this predictable rat-filled knockoff of Edgar Allen Poe’s Tell-Tale Heart still has more of a made-for-TV feel, but is worth checking out on a rainy day.
