The Reel Review

A

Wow. Wow. Wow. This 19th film from Marvel has nearly all its pantheon of superheroes doing battle with evil villain Thanos (Josh Brolin), who’s on an Infinity Stone collecting binge, which, once completed, will enable him to destroy half of the universe. The Russo brothers directing duo crams a lot (and I mean A LOT) into this epic, fast-moving, two-and-a-half-hour thrill ride.  This is a movie for Marvel fans whom have long fantasized about what it would be like to throw all the superheroes, and their unique skills and personalities, together and see what happens. And for the most part, it is both glorious and hilarious seeing them work together, and gut-wrenching when several of them die.  While having seen the prior films is a plus, this blockbuster is also for casual fans who, weary of the more formulaic, CGI-and-action overloaded recent Marvel films, will appreciate this more thoughtful and emotionally impactful story.  While there are so many characters that some just don’t have much to do, the film does a commendable job of juggling many elements and keeping the story moving. Now for the agonizingly long wait for next year’s sequel…

…stay for the end credits!
