A teenager harboring a dark secret while living on the fringes of society finds her soulmate while traveling across America to find her mother, in this adaptation of Camille DeAngelis’ 2015 young adult romantic horror starring Taylor Russell and Timothée Chalamet.
At its heart, Bones and All is the story of the lengths to which people will go to find and hang on to their soulmate, set to a grisly backdrop of cannibalism. Helmed by director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Suspiria), Russell (Escape Room, Lost in Space) and Oscar-nominated Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name) have great onscreen chemistry in a story reminiscent of 1973’s Badlands – two drifters forging their own future – with Oscar-winner Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies) as a fellow “eater” and Oscar-nominated Chloë Sevigny (Boys Don’t Cry) as the girl’s estranged mother.
While the gore may be a bit much for many viewers, for those who can stomach it, this symbolism-laden, unconventional arthouse genre mashup about the challenge of finding love features a deeply moving, and even haunting story, about the all-consuming feeling you have when you love someone deeply, bones and all.
