Madonna has chosen her star for her biopic – Ozark’s double Emmy winner, Julia Garner.

The 63-year-old entertainment icon says negotiations are underway. If finalized, this will be Garner’s biggest role yet. In addition to Ozark, Garner’s recent performances include the Netflix series Inventing Anna and the drama The Assistant and the comedy Grandma with Lily Tomlin.

Garner, who bears an uncanny resemblance to Madonna at the start of her career, has long been the frontrunner among a group that included Florence Pugh, Sky Ferreira, Bebe Rexha, Odessa Young (The Staircase) and Alexa Demie (Euphoria). The decision comes after hopefuls were put through a grueling, months-long boot camp that included singing, choreography and readings for up to 11 hours a day with Madonna, who plans to direct the film.

Madonna wrote the script with Diablo Cody (Juno, Tully). The film will trace her meteoric rise up through her 1990 smash hit, “Vogue.”
