Robert Duvall, whose seven decade career included an Oscar, a BAFTA, four Golden Globes, two Emmys and a Screen actors Guild award, died at his ranch in central Virginia Sunday. He was 95.

Born January 5, 1931 in San Diego, California to an actress and a naval officer, and following a brief stent in the U.S. Army, Duvall attended acting school in New York in 1955 with Dustin Hoffman, Gene Hackman and James Caan, who would remain lifelong friends.

Duvall’s feature film debut was as Boo Radley in 1962’s To Kill a Mockingbird. Following such successful films as The Godfather, The Godfather Part II, Apocalypse Now and Network, Duvall would win a Best Actor Oscar for his portrait as an alcoholic former country music star in 1983’s Tender Mercies.

Duvall is survived by his fourth wife Luciana Pedraza, whom he married in 2005.
