The late British actor Terence Stamp will appear in the upcoming sequel to 1994’s The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, having filmed scenes for the film just months before his death last month at the age of 87.

Filmmaker Stephen Elliott says Stamp had the time of his life reprising his role of Bernadette, the transgender nightclub artist who in the hit 1994 film sets off with two drag queens from Sydney to the desert plains of Southern Australia in an old school bus named Priscilla, performing ABBA songs for local communities.

Elliot says initially Stamp was hesitant to appear in the sequel, its working title Priscilla Queen of the Desert 2, fearing it would be a rehash of the same material, until Elliot provided him with a unique story exploring what it was like to get old and be gay or transgender.

Elliott says he hopes to resume filming of the sequel next year with Stamp’s co-stars Guy Pearce and Hugo Weaving, who gave their blessings beforehand for the pre-shoots with Stamp. The film will be Stamp’s final film role.
