Actor Dabney Coleman, whose film credits include 9 to 5, On Golden Pond and Tootsie, has died at his home in Santa Monica, California at the age of 92.

Born in Austin, Texas, Coleman attended Virginia Military Institute (VMI), then did a tour in the U.S. Army in Europe prior to starting his six-decade acting career.

Coleman’s big break came in the 1980 comedy 9 to 5, as the horrible boss of three women (Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton) who end up kidnapping him and holding him captive as they improve work life for their fellow employees. A year later Coleman appeared in the Oscar-winning drama On Golden Pond, followed by the Dustin Hoffman drag comedy Tootsie a year after that.

Coleman also appeared in numerous television series throughout his lengthy career, the most notable being 24 episodes of Boardwalk Empire in 2010-2011. His last acting role was in a 2019 episode of Yellowstone.

In addition to his acting, Coleman was an avid tennis player, winning numerous celebrity and charity tournaments. Coleman is survived by four children.
