Angelina Jolie will star in the fantasy film as fierce warrior Thena, alongside Gemma Chan (Crazy Rich Asians) as Sersi.
The rest of the cast includes Kit Harrington fresh off his long-running stint as Jon Snow in HBO’s Game of Thrones as non-Eternal Dane Whitman, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Richard Madden (Bodyguard, Game of Thrones) as all-powerful Ikaris, and Kumail Nanjiani (The Big Sick) as Kingo. The rest of the primary cast includes Lauren Ridloff (The Walking Dead) as the MCU’s first deaf hero, Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry (If Beale Street Could Talk, Atlanta) as Phastos, Lia McHugh as Sprite and Don Lee as Gilgamesh.
For us non-Marvel comic nerds, the Eternals comic books were introduced in 1976. The premise is that the Eternals are one of two races created during by the Celestials when they visited Earth five million years ago. The other race created from the Celestials’ genetic experiments was the genetically unstable and monstrously grotesque Deviants. Over the eons, the technologically advanced Eternals have used their superpowers to protect the human race from the Deviants.
Eternals, written by Matthew and Ryan Firpo and directed by Chloe Zhao (The Rider), is currently filming in London. It is scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2020.
