Luke Perry, who played the popular brooding bad boy Dylan McKay on the hit TV series Beverly Hills 90210, has died, five days after suffering a massive stroke at his home in Sherman Oaks, California.

Perry’s publicist says the 52-year-old actor and former teen idol was surrounded by his fiancé Wendy Madison Bauer, children Jack and Sophie, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, his mother, his siblings and other family members when he died Monday.

Born in Ohio, Perry moved to Los Angeles after graduating high school, working a series of odd jobs as he tried to break into the acting profession. After brief stints on the daytime dramas Loving and Another World, Perry was cast in his breakout role in Beverly Hills 90210. More recently, Perry took on the role of Archie’s father Fred in The CW’s hit TV series Riverdale, based on characters from the Archie comic books.

Perry’s final film is the upcoming Quentin Tarantino directed, Charles Manson era crime mystery Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, scheduled for release on July 26th.
