The Reel Review
A meteorologist haunted by a prior tornado tragedy teams up with a cocky, self-proclaimed “tornado wrangler” YouTube star during a record-breaking summer tornado season across Oklahoma. Their goal? To use science to neutralize tornadoes and save lives. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell star in this blockbuster disaster film.

Twisters is a pulse-pounding, juggernaut of a film – everything you would hope to get from a disaster film and way more. It has a line-up of likable supporting characters, heartfelt moments, spectacular tornado visual effects and even a message about first impressions. Edgar-Jones (Where the Crawdads Sing, Normal People) and the charismatic Powell (Top Gun: Maverick, Anyone But You) have magnetic on-screen chemistry as the tornado savant and the swaggering cowboy with a heart of gold. They sell the story and make it believable.

Under the direction of Oscar-nominated Lee Isaac Chung (Minari), Twisters also leans-in to the time-honored values of self-sufficiency and volunteerism, as well as a love of country music and outdoor activities such as rodeos and baseball. It isn’t so much a sequel to 1996’s Twister that starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt as it is a companion piece, about the next generation of storm chasers. Twisters is a shockingly good thrill ride that will work your nerves in the most entertaining, breathless way possible.

A friend from the Virgin Islands took refuge here after Hurricane Marilyn. I took him to see the 1996 Twister 🌀. It was a BAD IDEA!!! 😀😔
